HOUSTON, TX —   Houston police are trying to piece together what led to an officer taking his own life yesterday afternoon.

The 16-year veteran’s name hasn’t been released.

HPD says a passerby found the officer’s body in his patrol car at George Bush Park.
Investigators say it appears he shot himself, but they’re expected to release more information, including his name, later this morning.

The officer most recently worked in the westside burglary and theft division and had never come up in an investigation.

He leaves behind a wife and two children.
