HOUSTON, TX - A Houston firefighter is suspected of murdering his live-in girlfriend, then killing himself.

Around 6:45 p.m. Thursday, family members went to check on the couple after Caroline Minjares didn't pick up her child. They saw her body inside the house of Prince Lake Ln. and called 911. When investigators got to the home, they found Minjares had been stabbed to death in the bathroom and her boyfriend, identified as Richard Deluna, had hanged himself in the bathroom.

"At this point, it's still early in the investigation," said HPD Lt. Robert Blain. "The crime scene unit hasn't finished taking all their photographs yet."

The Houston Fire Department released the following statement:

"Despite the information already released, the scene is still under investigation by the Houston Police Department. As a matter of policy we do not comment on another agency’s on-going investigation, except to say that are thoughts and prayers go out to those affected. The HFD has mobilized our Critical Incident Stress Team to the HFD units that responded to the tragedy to ensure the welfare of our members."
