HOUSTON, TX – A 27-year-old man is in critical condition after wrapping his car around a power pole overnight.

Harris County sheriff’s deputies say the man was speeding east on Aldine Mail Rte. Rd. just after midnight on Friday when he lost control and slid into a pole. The car hit on the driver’s side, trapping him in there until emergency crews could pull him out.

“They had to cut off both the driver’s door and the rear driver’s door of the vehicle and cut out the pillar to get him out. He was definitely trapped in there,” said deputy BJ Troyer.

Once crews pulled the driver out of the car, he was airlifted to the hospital. Deputies say they’re not sure why he was speeding, but they haven’t ruled out alcohol as a factor.
