HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Zoo took part in the global effort to support World Giraffe Day.

"It's a day out of the year that we try to raise awareness about the issues giraffes face in the wild," said Kendall Thawley, a hoofstock keeper at the Houston Zoo. "It's not a species that necessarily people know is declining, and so it's something we want to bring attention to."

Activities at the zoo included feeding giraffes, coloring pictures, makes giraffe figures with pipe cleaners, taking pictures in a photo booth and looking at replicas of giraffe bones.
