HOUSTON – The Houston Astros announced that they had reached a deal with their top draft pick  in 2015, shortstop Alex Bregman of LSU. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Bregman went number two overall in 2015 MLB Draft to the Astros.

Here is what the Astros had to say about Bregman:

The 21-year-old Bregman (6-0, 186) hit .323 (84×260) with 22 doubles, nine homers, 49 RBI, 38 steals and a .947 OPS (.412 OBP/.535 SLG) at LSU this year while leading his team to the College World Series. The starting shortstop and number three hitter for the Tigers this year was one of four finalists for the 2015 Golden Spikes Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top collegiate player. Bregman is also one of three finalists for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award, which he won as a freshman in 2013.

“Alex Bregman has been one of college baseball’s elite players for the last three years and we are delighted to welcome him to our organization today,” said Elias. “He’s a skilled defensive shortstop who also impacts the game on offense, as he possesses the ability to hit for average, steal bases, and put up power numbers. He’s also a proven winner and has the makeup to be a leader for our club one day. We are excited for him to start his professional career right away.”

The Astros have now signed 28 of their 42 selections from the 2015 MLB Draft.
