LA PORTE, TX - A La Porte jailer quit after an inmate accused him of rape and now the Harris County District Attorney is investigating.

The inmate told an evening jailer that the man who worked earlier in the day had sexually assaulted her. That jailer told a supervisor, who launched an internal investigation at the La Porte Police Department.

"As the investigation began the jailer acknowledged that the particular act did occur. Amid an internal affairs and administrative investigation immediately elected to resign," said Sgt. John Krueger.

It is illegal for a jailer to have sex with an inmate. He could face anywhere from several months in jail to several years in prison.
