FEDERAL HEIGHTS, CO – Just outside of Denver is the small community of Federal Heights, population 11,000 and change. Home to a nifty water park, a tattoo parlor, and a cop with some anger-management issues.

At least six cameras were rolling in December when Federal Heights police corporal Mark Magness brought an assault suspect to the jailhouse.

Things went downhill from there.

A body camera records Magness dragging the handcuffed man from the squad car and apparently kicking him while he’s down.

Magness pulls the man to his feet and moves him toward the jail with a brief stop at a small refrigerator into which Magness smashes the man’s face, cutting open the man’s chin.

Once inside the cell, the suspect raises his hand and calls Magness a name associated with a male body part.

That was a bad idea, because Magness took the opportunity for some corporal punishment, to beat some sense into the suspect. Literally. A dozen punches. with seven to the face and five to the body.

Body-cam video also shows Magness confining the suspect to a chair, then sticking his fingers on pressure points near the eye and throat.

Magness is on a year’s probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor assault.

The suspect has an attorney and is looking at a possible big payday for his jailhouse beat down.
