Pot advertisers come up with clever way to get their message out in Colorado

DENVER, CO - Call it a sign of the times popping up along highways in Colorado. Aadopt-a-highway programs are now sponsored by the state's booming cannabis industry.

But should it be legal?

Marijuana dispensaries are banned from advertising on TV, radio, and billboards,  or anywhere that 30% or more of the audience might be minors, but  there is nothing keeping marijuana businesses from partnering with the "clean Colorado" program.

The dispensaries pay for the clean-up of litter along sections of highway and get an acknowledgment on the road-side signs.

One shop has already spent more than$100,000 to sponsor more than 20 roadways around Denver, but says it has nothing to do with advertising.

The Colorado Department of Transportation agrees it's not* advertising since they say the sponsorship program saves the state millions of dollars in cleanup costs.

We know this much, 

it gives a whole to meaning to the term "going green."
