HOUSTON, TX - Houston Police say a driver made a deadly mistake when he pulled over on Beltway 8 North overnight.
Officers say the driver of a Chevy Trailblazer likely thought he was in the shoulder, but he was actually in a lane of traffic when he got out of his car to check a back tire. Another car hit the Blazer, spinning it into its driver and killing him.
"It was a really tough situation for the striking unit. All the lights are out and to come up on a vehicle that was disabled in a moving lane of traffic is not something you would expect," said HPD officer JD Rossman.
The Trailblazer driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash shut down eastbound lanes for nearly four hours.
