HOUSTON, TX – Two Houston firefighters who pulled a little girl out of a burning building were honored for their heroics on Thursday.

In May 2014, Allen Nile and Kyle Itzen responded to a house fire in north Houston. When they went inside the burning building, they found the 5-year-old girl trapped and unconscious. They got her out, saving her life.

Itzen says it’s fitting that he earned the award with Nile.

“When I first came to the station, Allen was the first one to talk to me, set me aside told me how things were going to be a rookie,” said Itzen. “He’s been a mentor to me and I couldn’t pick anyone else I’d rather go in with and do what we’ve done.”

Itzen and Nile received the award for Firefighters of the Year, which is given by the Independent Insurance Agents of Houston.
