WASHINGTON, D.C. -- For decades the historic suit that Neil Armstrong wore during the Apollo 11 mission has been preserved in a climate-controlled storage space at the Smithsonian.

With the help of the public, that may finally change. The museum has launched a Kickstarter campaign that will place the suit on display for all to see. The new “Destination Moon” gallery is supposed to be open in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of landing on the moon in 2019.
