HOUSTON, TX – The U.S. attorney general, in Houston for a conference, weighed in on the case of Sandra Bland.

Loretta Lynch spoke at the Delta Sigma Theta sorority convention Tuesday afternoon. She says Bland’s arrest and death highlight the worsening relationship between the African-American community and law enforcement.

“Tensions between our young people and law enforcement are erupting into violence,” said Lynch. “This epidemic causes fear for community members and dangers for officers charged with their protection.”

So far, Lynch hasn’t publicly supported calls for a U.S. Justice Department investigation into Bland’s death.
