BAYTOWN, TX - Pastor packing heat, not a combination you'd expect, but the case at the Church of New Beginnings in Baytown.

Pastor Benny Holmes was in his church office at 6:15 in the morning when he heard a noise.

"When he went to go investigate to figure out what the noise was, he had observed a gentleman by the name of Lee Marvin Blue carrying a box, inside the box there were some electronics. He confronted the individual who had just broken into the church and there was a confrontation,...Mr. Holmes discharged one round from his fire arm and it struck Mr. Blue in the right shoulder," explained Det. Luzette Watkins of the Baytown Police Department.

Mr. Blue was transported to the hospital but is going to be ok. Divine intervention?

Pastor Holmes, he'll be okay, too.

"Someone came in, tried to burglarize the place and he did what he had to do," added Watkins.

Not the Pastor's first time assisting law enforcement.

"In September of 2014 Pastor Holmes, he was able to apprehend and just hold this one female who has been stealing packages that had been delivered by UPS," according to Watkins.

Community members admire Holmes' actions.

Tonya Gilbert said, "He's most definitely a hero, not just for the people but for the lord."

"You got to take care of yourself I guess. Ain't nobody there to help you but the good lord, he's going to help you," according to Gordon Garrett.

Whether the good lord had anything to do with it or not, the outcome could have been much worse.
