BOSTON – Boston was supposed to be the American candidate for the 2024 Olympic Games, but on Monday city leaders said never mind, in so many words. Mayor Marty Walsh decided not to sign the host city contract because it would have made taxpayers responsible for any cost overruns.

“I refuse to mortgage the future of the city away… and I refuse to commit to signing a guarantee that uses taxpayer dollars to pay for the Olympics,” said Mayor Walsh.

Now, Los Angeles is being reconsidered as a potential American candidate.
