MEDFORD, MA – Back in the day, traffic stops didn’t include a cop threatening to put a bullet through the brain of the motorist. But that was then, and this is now.

Dash-cam video from a motorist shows a guy in a t-shirt and shorts approaching the driver and threatening to shoot him in the head.

“I’ll put a hole right through your head.”

The guy making the threat was off-duty Medford, Massachusetts detective Stephen Lebert.

Mike, who didn’t give his last name, says he didn’t know the guy was a cop. He thought the guy was going to shoot him. Driver Mike admits he was confused while going through a round-about, a rotary, but he says he wasn’t driving the wrong way.

Here is the exchange that was caught on video:

Detective: "And you went through that [expletive] rotary."

Driver: "I didn't..(inaudible)...I didn't see a sign."

Detective: "Give me your license."
Driver: "Sorry, I didn't see that sign."

Detective: "You're lucky I'm a cop or else I'd be beating the [expletive] [expletive] out of you."

Driver: "Jeez."

Det. Lebert has been accused of excessive anger on the job in the past, and has been involved in two civil lawsuits. It looks like the mean streets of Medford have a loose cannon carrying a gun and badge. Not a good combination.
