DANVILLE, IN - Meet Eric Hites from Indiana. tipping the scales at nearly 600 pounds, and recently separated from his wife. So, Hites knew he had to make some changes in his life. while listening to the proclaimers sing, "I'm gonna be (500 miles,)" the 40-year-old said the song spoke to him and then his spokes called to him!

Hites is now on a journey from Massachusetts to California on his bike. His grand gesture is designed to win back hs wife and get himself into shape. He says he had not been on a bike for 30 years, but he knew he had to do something. so with his doctor`s blessing, he began building up his stamina and in June he began the cross-country trip with a 300-pound trailor in tow.

He expects the journey to take about seven months. In the meantime, Hites created a website called 'Fat guy across America' and is also using Facebook and Twitter to share his story. He has developed quite a following and tells himself, "It's bigger than you, now. You have to finish this trip because everyone wants to get out there and start exercising. You don't have to end up on my 600-pound life. You can just do it yourself and skip the gastric bypasses and just do it on your own."

Hites has lost more than 60 pounds, so far, but says he has gained back the love and respect of his wife. Plus, his perspiration has clearly turned into inspiration for others!
