NORTHWEST HOUSTON -- A dozen dogs were killed in a northwest Houston house fire, last night.

The fire started around six in the kitchen of this house on Spring Valley Drive.

No one was home at the time except for a dozen dogs, some of those puppies and unfortunately firefighters couldn't save them. It was the smoke that ultimately killed them.

Houston firefighters say the fire may have started due to an electrical surge from lightning.
