HOUSTON, Tx - The Harris County Sheriff's Office made major progress in the case of Deputy Darren Goforth.

Deputy Goforth was brutally murdered Friday evening, while pumping gas into his patrol car in Northwest Harris County, and on Saturday Shannon J. Miles was formally charged with Goforth's death. From what deputies knew on Saturday, Miles' decision to sneak up behing Goforth and kill him 'execution style', was not motivated by anything Goforth had done, but rather it was simply because he was a law enforcement officer.

While deputies continue to investigate the tragic, community members gathered at the Chevron station where Goforth was gunned down. Visitors piled flowers, notes, and other momentos as they came to pay tribute to a man who worked to protect their neighborhood, simply calling the incident tragic and unnecessary. Many more will gather at the gas station, located at 16050 West Road, again Saturday evening, where a vigil will take place for Deputy Goforth at 7 p.m.
