Suspect jumps into San Jacinto River from overpass after crash

HOUSTON – After searching for hours, dive teams recovered the body of a man who jumped from the Eastex Freeway overpass into the San Jacinto River.

Police say the man fled from the scene of a nearby accident in north Houston before his car stalled out on the Eastex Freeway and Townsen.

After officers spotted him, the man jumped to try and escape.

Crews found his body around 2:30 a.m. Thursday.

The man has not yet been identified.
