A Rhode Island man who weighs just under 800 pounds says he has been kicked out of the hospital for violating his patient care plan by ordering a pizza.

Steven Assanti, 33, says his eating addiction is what led him to have to live out of his father’s SUV.

“It’s an addiction and I realize that, and it’s a disease.”

Assanti was getting the help he needed at Rhode Island Hospotal for 80 days, but he was told he could no longer stay there after he ordered a pizza which was a violation of his care plan.

“I was supposed to stay there and lose all my weight and get down to 550, to get the gastric bypass. That was their plan.”

A spokesperson for the hospital says they cannot speak about Assanti or any patient’s treatment.

Assanti’s father, Steven Vellette, says,  “And if he comes home and I do get him up the stairs some how, some way, he’s gonna go right back to his eating habits.”

Vellette says taking his son home will be a death sentence, so the two men say they will continue to drive until they can find a place tjat can help.

Vellette says, “I just don’t know where to turn to. I called everybody, everybody you can think of in the state of Rhode Island and nobody seems to be… can help me.”
