A petition is circulating in Florida City, Florida, asking for the resignation of  a cop whose courtesy call quickly turned deadly because he freaked out. He approached the front door of the home of Gillian Palacios and knocked. What happens next is heartbreaking.

"The dog came out, he drew his gun and he shot her. Within seconds."

Two-year-old Duchess is the innocent victim. The rescue mix collapsed when the cop opened fire three times. Even more tragic is that there were young witnesses.

"My daughter was right there at the front door, my eight-year-old son was right there at the front door.'

Eighteen-year-old Sage tried to save her dog`s life, but Duchess didn`t stand a chance.  "I put my hand under her head immediately and I could feel the blood rushing through my fingers.

By the way, the family wasn`t doing anything wrong when the cop came knocking. The car door was left open in the driveway and the cop was letting them know.

A grief-stricken Palacios says, 'My dog is dead. Okay. It`s not right.'

If only the trigger-happy cop had used a taser, this four-legged family member  would not have been left lying in a pool of blood. The cop is on leave while the police investigate how the best of intentions resulted in the worst of reactions.
