HUMBLE, TX - The verdict is in regarding an alleged racially insensitive gift basket Atascocita High School presented to Summer Creek High school at a football game last Friday.

The gesture that was meant to be sweet has left a sour taste in the mouths of many students, parents, and faculty after discovering watermelon was included.

Some band members had been suspended.

According to Atascocita, before presenting the gift, some students thought the watermelon could be racially offensive.

Now, an investigation determined only a portion of Atascocita students on the field were aware of the gifts contents, while some had no knowledge.

Atascocita assistant superintendent, Trey Kraemer said:

"Consequences will be applied based upon students' level of involvement and in compliance with the student code of conduct."

Those students who were asked to stand on the field and knew nothing of the basket's contents won't be punished.

Kraemer says student council leaders from both schools will meet to talk about the lesson in all of this.
