Facebook to expand safety check feature for future events

MENLO PARK, CA - Terror attacks, like the one that struck Paris, are already terrifying enough for the victims. But they can be just as terrifying for families and friends who don't know if their loved ones are safe or not.

To help people communicate their status in times of chaos, Facebook deployed a one-click Safety Check feature in 2014. It was intended to be used for natural disasters like earthquakes or tornadoes.

Friday was the first time the feature was activated for a terrorist attack.
