BOSTON, MA – People have been wearing strange and curious things on their heads as fashion statements since people have had a head for fashion.
A hat made out of milk bottle tops is great for those who make recycling their religion.
If you’re a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, then wearing a colander on your head is part of your Pastafarian expression.
Lindsay Miller of Boston is the latest Pastafarian allowed to wear a spaghetti strainer for her state’s driver’s license photo. The state first said no, but then agreed the colander was another type of religious head wear.
“I'm like, 'you're discriminating against us just because you haven't heard of us?' You know it's like, there's how many thousands of religions? How are you going to know all of them?”
Pastafarians are turning up with their colanders all over the place, like in Utah and Oklahoma, and in countries like the Czech Republic and Austria.
The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster started ten years ago as a protest against the teaching of intelligent design in Kansas schools.
Some folks say satire is the basis for the ideology, but the church says it’s sincere and that hard science is the foundation of its beliefs.
We’re sure we can all say “raman” to that.
