HOUSTON - Police sources say a mom and dad went out on a date Monday night, leaving their three kids home alone in northeast Houston, and somewhere along the way the eldest, a five-year-old, put the one-year-old sibling into the oven, and turned it on.

Police say the baby is dead. The case remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, in another horrific situation in southeast Houston, HPD says a two-month-old baby died after being stabbed to death by his mother.

“She [the mother] was very distraught. I don't think there were any injuries on her, mentally she was a little unstable so they decided to call HFD and they transported her to Ben Taub,” says HPD Homicide Investigator David Stark.

Police are still trying to piece together exactly what happened. Investigators say two other children and the mom's sister were asleep around 2am when it all happened, so there were no witnesses but neighbors apparently heard screaming.
