Thirteen arrested in Fort Bend child sex sting operation

FORT BEND COUNTY, TX – The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office and partners in the Houston Metro Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) concluded special operations in November that led to the arrest of  13 suspects. Besides the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, other agencies included the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office, Rosenberg PD, the FBI, the Houston Police Department, Waller County DA’s Office, the Needville Police Department and Katy ISD Police Department.

Task force agents engaged in communications with suspects using social media websites that are accessible to adults as well as children.  Through communication with suspects online, officers were able to direct suspects attempting to engage in sexual contact with children to another location where officers were waiting and made arrests in three cases.

The first arrest was initiated before the operation actually began, but the capture site was set up and the arrest was made on Nov. 5.

The perpetrator was Eric Burgess, 50, of Conroe , who was charged with Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child.

November 18

  • Talha Riaz, 23, of Tomball. Charges: Online Solicitation of a Minor; Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child; and Evading Arrest on Foot.

November 19

  • Carlton Crosby, 18, of  Richmond. Charges: Online Solicitation of a Minor; Attempted Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child;
  • Richard Weekley, 33, of Jersey Village; Charges: Online Solicitation of a Minor; Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child;
  • Kenneth Gibson, 50, of Spring; Online Solicitation of a Minor; Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child;
  • Nathaniel Montes, 35, Houston; Online Solicitation of a Minor; Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child; currently on bond in Harris County for Sexual Assault of a Child ($30,000) May, 2015;
  • Christopher Nunes, 32, Cypress; Online Solicitation of a Minor; Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child; Nunes is a coach and teacher at MacArthur High School, Aldine ISD;
  • Lee PhillipTraver, 34, Rosenberg; Online Solicitation of a Minor; Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child; Endangering a Child, two counts; an interview determined he left two children, ages 2 and 4, at home alone; and
  • Jesus Garcia, 29, of Houston; Online Solicitation of a Minor; Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child.

November 20

  • Jesus Soto, 24, Fulshear; Online Solicitation of a Minor; Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child; and
  • Garry Bellamy, 66, of Pasadena; Online Solicitation of a Minor; Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child.

November 24, 2015

  • John Crawford, Katy, Online Solicitation of a Minor; Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child; Crawford is an officer with the Texas Army National Guard.

Aldine ISD released a statement in regards to Chris Nunes being on the list of those arrested:

“The individual in question has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. This incident did not occur on campus. We will continue to provide a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff.”
