HOUSTON – The Southwest Freeway was shut down after a man wearing only his underwear threatened to jump from an overhead sign.

Officials say around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday the man was walking along the Southwest Freeway near I-45 before climbing onto the overhead metal signage.

Police say the man was shouting that he wanted to go back to El Salvador.

HPD negotiators were eventually able to convince the man to come down after telling him they would take him.

The man was arrested.

No word on what charges he’ll face.
