HOUSTON – The University of Houston Cougars finished at No. 8 in the final Associated Press poll, making it their highest finish since 1979. UH also finished eighth in the USA Today coaches poll. The Coogs finished 13-1 in coach Tom Herman’s first season.

This comes after the team’s second 13-win season and its 38-24 win against Florida State in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

Herman says, “The ranking and the respect earned by the national voters are by-products of the investment made by a determined group of players and it began last January. From day one, this team has opened up its heart and trusted the staff and the championship culture we planned to instill here. When you put in the blood, sweat and tears this group has, and you compete with fanatical effort in everything you do like this group has, you are rewarded and this ranking is yet another reward for our players. It is a gratifying experience to be a part of this ride and we’re already looking forward to the 2016 season.”

The Cougars will open the 2016 season Sept. 3 against the Oklahoma Sooners in the AdvoCare Kickoff Classic.
