Two parades being held in Houston for MLK Day

HOUSTON – Hundreds of thousands of people will gather today to celebrate the life and legacy of Civil Rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Kicking off today’s festivities is the 22nd annual MLK Grande Parade which begins at 10 a.m. this morning in Midtown.

The parade originates at San Jacinto Street and Elgin.

There will be 15 parade floats and 30 marching bands.

300,000 spectators are also expected to attend.

The 38th annual “Original” MLK Parade is also this morning. It starts out on Crawford and Texas Street and will end at Hamilton and Preston.

The parade also starts at 10 a.m.
