Officer injured after SUV plows into his patrol unit during traffic stop

HOUSTON - An officer is waking up with stitches after being involved in an accident on the Gulf Freeway.

According to authorities, around midnight, the officer was finishing a traffic stop when an SUV crashed into the back of his patrol unit.

The driver ended up rolling over onto the shoulder and was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Investigators are looking into whether alcohol played a role.

As for the officer, he suffered a gash on his head and received 20 stitches.
