HOUSTON – A woman was arrested after stealing an ambulance and leading police on a chase in downtown Houston.

Authorities say just before midnight, they received a call from the fire department about an ambulance that had been stolen from the station.

They were tracking it on GPS and police eventually caught up with the woman.

However, she refused to stop and instead led police on a slow chase to Smith Street and Congress where she eventually gave up.

Officials say she told officers that she was trying to get away from her abusive boyfriend and that the ambulance was the best vehicle she could find.

The woman is charged with felony evading and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
