HOUSTON - If you`re looking for some good "tail" head to Just Oxtails Soul Food in Southeast Houston.
The man behind the "tail" is owner Kenneth Washington. He grew up in Houston`s Fourth Ward. Washington and his wife started Just Oxtails back in 2002, and it`s been a "buffet bonanza".
No ribs here, just delicious, hearty, soul food like Oxtails, Smothered Pork Chops and Chittlin`s.
If you`ve never had soul food, it`s time to broaden your horizons. "Try it for the first time and you`ll be hooked, you`ll love it," says Washington.
And he should know, he serves more than 20,000 pieces of "tail" every year. "Beef oxtail is actually a cow tail. I marinate it, season it and cook it in a pot."
The smothered pork chops are served over white rice also smothered in brown gravy. "Brown gravy is our hallmark. We can marinate the pork chops in the same gravy and then it has a pork taste to it." YUM!
One successful restaurant isn`t enough for Washington, he`s ready to go "big time" telling us, "Our problem is finding good, sound help, dependable help... and we could be as big as Luby`s."
