DENVER, CO - "When I look back on my NFL career, I'll know without a doubt that I gave everything I had to help my teams walk away with a win.”
With that, an emotional Peyton Manning, announces he is hanging up his cleats after 18 years in the NFL.
The quarterback with the folksy, country boy charm, the most wins, two Super Bowl rings, and five MVP awards is clearly going out on top.
“I revere football. I love the game. So you don't have to wonder if I'll miss it. Absolutely. Absolutely, I will."
Perhaps he`ll miss rejuvenating the Colts franchise with whom he set a bunch of records and grabbed his first Lombardi trophy. Or perhaps he`ll miss the Broncos, where he became the league`s career leader in passing yards and touchdown passes.
“I`ll miss playing in front of so many great fans both at home and on the road. And I`ll even miss the Patriot fans in Foxborough.”
Manning is the first starting quarterback to win the big game for two different teams. Off the field, he`s also a commercial success as the NFL’s top pitchman.
According to Forbes Magazine, Peyton earned about $12 million a year in endorsement deals.
He`s also humble, and gives credit where credit is due. “I had great coaches and players and it wouldn`t have been possible without that.”
Manning may not be the only QB leaving Denver. Rumor has it the Texans put in a call to Brock Osweiler's people, hoping Manning`s back-up may walk away from a $45 million deal with the Broncos and suit up in Houston instead!
If that fails, Texas favorite, RG3 is available. The Redskins said sayonara to him the first day of free agency as well!
Annnd the quarterback scramble continues!
