HOUSTON, TX - Cristo Rey Jesuit School's Luis Alejandre has a passion for learning, knowing education can change his life.

"Coming from a family that doesn't have too many resources to begin with, I want to improve my quality of life and give back to my mother everything she's been able to do for me," Alejandre said.

Luis has been raised by a single mom after his father left the family shortly after he was born. As for the male role model in his life, Luis says it's his older brother, who attends Rice  University.

"I want to live up to the expectations my brother has for me and pursue my own interests," Alejandre said.

The junior at Cristo Rey is a student ambassador, National Honor Society member and campus ministry leader.  He also spends one day a week at Hilcorp Energy as part of a work-study program.  Get this, he's also performing well in five AP classes!

"He's dedicated to his classes," his AP Language and Composition teacher, Kelly Bartusiak said. "He's dedicated to getting things right the first time. He's very committed to his learning."

In his downtime, Luis says he enjoys reading, as well as watching his favorite telenovela, "Hotel De Los Secretos."
