LOS GATOS, California - Hold on to your Underwood, folks.  Starting in May, you'll have to pay an extra $2 for your Netflix and chill, or at least for Netflix.

The streaming service will increase the price it charges to old-time customers from $7.99 to $9.99.  And be thankful it's not $10, because that would be a rip-off!

Netflix says they have to raise the price to keep producing original shows such as House of Cards, Jessica Jones, Orange is the new Black or Bloodline.  But not everybody is aware of the increase.

"I just saw a tweet today that said that 80% of Netflix users don't know that the price is going up," said customer Tessa Brown.

Around 17 million accounts will experience the hike.  That's 37% of U.S. subscribers.  The rest are already paying that amount.  All blah, blah, blah, blah, of course, if you're using somebody else's password.

So, if you don't want to pay or can't afford 2 more dollars per month, walk away now.  Otherwise, stay and… as House of Cards' Frank Underwood would say: "the butchery begins."

That's a message even your wallet can understand.
