Houston deputy constable shot multiple times

HOUSTON, TX -- Precinct 7  deputy constable,  11-year veteran Alden Clopton was shot multiple times.  He was transported to Memorial Hermann and is undergoing surgery at this hour.

Around 11:20 last night two Harris County precinct seven deputies had conducted a traffic stop on Briley.

They had concluded the traffic stop and the person who was stopped left.  A male deputy was standing next to the female deputy's car talking with her when an unknown male suspect began to open fire.

Apparently the suspect was standing in the median across the street from the deputies.

He was shot four times in the chest and side.

The female deputy returned fire, shooting one time at the male suspect who took off running on foot through a field.

The suspect was able to get away.

The constable suffered damage in the abdominal area and a bullet lodged near his heart. His immediate condition has no been released.

He was wearing his bullet-proof vest.
