Houston - Ever wonder what happens if you pack a gun in your carry-on?

Well, that's kind of a "loaded" question.

The TSA just set a record at airports across the country by finding 73 guns in carry-on bags in one week!

And three of those deadly weapons were in Houston, while six were found in Big D!

Yeah, and get this-- according to a TSA blog, 68 of the guns they found were loaded and 27 of them had a round in the chamber.

It makes you wonder, what's up with this trend?

"I don't know who's carrying guns...if they're licensed to carry? Are they allowed to carry?" one airport passenger questioned.

Well, in some cases a passenger can face a penalty as high as $11,000!

But the TSA says just because they find a "prohibited item" doesn't mean the passenger had bad intentions nor should they necessarily be punished.

Some say smuggling a loaded gun on a plane should result in an automatic arrest, fine, and criminal charges.

But not everyone agrees. "People who have the permit should be allowed to do what they want with it," a passenger insisted.

Just not on an airplane.

So next time you head to the airport, make sure you're not "packing heat" in your carry-on.

Meanwhile ,  the TSA will keep "shooting in the dark" to find those guns and other dangerous weapons.
