HOUSTON - Exploding fireworks sound a lot like gunshots, but at one Fourth of July party, both were heard going off at once.

According to the Houston Police Department,  three people were fatally shot west of downtown Houston while lighting up fireworks.

Sergeant D. Fontenot, HPD Homicide Division, says, "There was a large party out here people were gathered to watch the fireworks"

Sparkling lights were soon interrupted by flying bullets. Police say a few men drove by and started shooting up the celebration.

Houston rapper, Paul Wall, is taking to social media to voice his frustrations about the three lives lost, begging people to "put the guns down".
