SWAT suspect in custody after firing several rounds at officers

NW HOUSTON -- A SWAT suspect is in custody after firing several rounds at officers.

This unfolded inside the Baron Inn Motel, off of W. 34th St. and Highway 290.

Police the initially responded to a kidnapping call, around 3:30, Thursday morning. When they arrived that found a 39-year-old man barricaded inside a room with a female hostage. He also reportedly had two guns, a semi-automatic rifle and pistol, along with several rounds of ammo. Which he used while firing several rounds at officers, during the course of two hours. Fortunately, no officers were hit and they did not return fire.

During the standoff the suspect did release the hostage. An hour later, SWAT officers used tear gas to get inside the room and arrest the suspect.

No word on what sparked all of this. We will continue to keep you posted as more details come out.
