HOUSTON  -- Texans linebacker John Simon hosted a first responders appreciation lunch on Thursday, honoring Harris County Sheriff's officers and K9s4Cops.

"These are the guys that protect us off the field and in the community," Simon said. "I think it's always great to show them respect and to hang out with them."

K9s4Cops is a national nonprofit organization, providing trained K-9s to law enforcement agencies and schools in 33 states across the country and internationally.

The Texans gave two K-9 officers a pair of tickets to the team's season opener on Sept. 11, where they'll be honored with other first responders.
