3rd annual Cigna Sunday Streets kick-off this weekend

HOUSTON — Mayor Sylvester Turner announced the 2016 Fall Cigna Sunday Streets neighborhood line up Monday.

For the next few months, Houstonians will be able to enjoy a selected street for four hours during one Sunday in the months of October, November and December. During the event, the streets will be closed to motorized traffic, allowing Houstonians to cycle, walk, run, dance and socialize in the street.

In its third year, Cigna Sunday Streets continues to spotlight Houston’s most unique neighborhoods around the city with a focus on promoting alternative transportation, supporting neighborhood economies and a sense of community.

The Fall 2016 neighborhoods include the following dates and locations:

October 2

Energy Corridor

  • Eldridge Parkway from Briar Forest Dr. to Enclave Parkway
  • Time: Noon - 4 p.m.

November 13

5th Ward

  • Lyons Avenue from I-59 Service Road to Benson Street
  • Benson Street from Lyons Avenue to Market Street
  • Time: Noon - 4 p.m.

December 4

Oak Forest/Garden Oaks

  • 43rd Street from Ella Boulevard to Rosslyn Road
  • Time: Noon - 4 p.m.
