HOUSTON – An off duty-deputy was shot multiple times during an attempted robbery in northeast Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, a deputy constable from Precinct 1 was giving an acquaintance a ride around 12:45 a.m near Cavalcade and Lavender.

After the suspect got into the vehicle, the deputy and acquaintance got into an argument which led the suspect to pulling out his gun.

He held the deputy at gunpoint in the truck, demanding his money and belongings.

The suspect didn’t realize the man was a deputy, until he drew his gun and shots fired.

They both jumped out of the truck, and continued shooting at each other.

The deputy was shot in the buttocks and the thigh, and the suspect was shot in the leg.

The suspect managed to escape, and later showed up at Ben Taub hospital with a gunshot wound in his leg. The deputy is being treated at Memorial Hermann hospital.

Both the deputy and suspect are in stable condition.
