HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- Harris County Sheriff's deputies are investigating after a 22-year-old man shot and killed his 58-year-old father early Tuesday.

The shooting happened around 3 a.m. at a home in the 3000 block of Flaming Candle and Candleview Drive.

According to deputies, the two men were arguing when the son held his dad down with his foot and opened fire. While holding down his father, the son accidentally shot himself in the foot. The son fled the scene and was traveling on I-45 N, toward Conroe, when he was involved in an accident.

His girlfriend picked him up and he told her what he had done, deputies said.

The girlfriend then drove the son back to the house, where she found the father's body. The woman called 911 to report the incident but, when emergency crews arrived, it was too late.

The father was pronounced dead at the scene. The son was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Sheriff Ron Hickman said the son has a history of substance abuse and family violence, and there were a number of disturbance calls to the house prior to the shooting.
