Friendswood PD investigating fatal officer-involved shooting

FRIENDSWOOD, Texas — The Friendswood Police Department is investigating after an officer shot and killed a theft suspect Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The officer had responded to reports of a theft around 3:10 p.m. in the 100 block of S. Friendswood Drive at Willowow Street, investigators said. Police said the suspect, who is described as a man around 45-60 years of age, was reportedly walking south on S. Friendswood Drive. The department said the suspect was armed with a box cutter.

Investigators said the officer found the suspect moments later, and shots were fired.

The suspect was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Further details involving the shooting are still under investigation.  Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting is asked to call the Friendswood Police Department.
