Residents jump to safety after being trapped in south Houston apartment complex fire

SOUTH HOUSTON -- Residents had to jump to safety as a fire trapped them inside their south Houston apartment complex.

The fire broke out around 3:15am, Tuesday, at the Briarwick Condos off of Holly Hall, near the Medical Center.

It quickly spread causing a second alarm to be pulled.

Meanwhile, one man jumped to safety. Another woman climbed from a balcony out onto the roof to escape. Firefighters were able to help bring her down.

Crews worked for nearly an hour to get the upper hand and were still putting out hot spots hours later.

As for the cause, arson is investigating.
