Committing to the Coogs, 9-year-old Nicholas Hickey signs on to join the UH men’s basketball team

HOUSTON - The University of Houston men's basketball program made a slam dunk signing on Friday, welcoming 9-year-old Nicholas Hickey to the team.

Nicholas joined his parents, Daniele and Damon Hickey, for a signing day ceremony inside the Guy V. Lewis Development Facility.

Coach Kelvin Sampson and the Cougars are working with Nicholas and his family through Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization, which aims to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.

Diagnosed with epilepsy, apraxia of speech and autism, Nicholas faces challenges with verbal communication. Nicholas continues to stay positive and finds joy playing sports, especially basketball.
