Kara Willis was born and raised here in Houston, Texas. After working in Beaumont, TX as a morning reporter for 2 years, she’s proud to be back in her hometown!
Willis graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches with a B.A in Theatre Arts & a minor in Radio/TV in 2013. She later graduated with an M.A in Mass Communications from SFA. Prior to working in news, she worked in PR/marketing and community outreach.
During her time in Beaumont at KBMT, she worked as a reporter/MMJ and fill-in anchor for the Daybreak morning show. She’s reported on a variety of stories over her 2 years there from community events, local court cases, help for the homeless, support for animal shelters and money tips for the station’s weekly financial segment ‘Money Monday’– just to name a few. When Willis is not at work, you can find her spending time with her dog Scotty and her husband around Houston at the dog park or her favorite coffee shops and brunch restaurants. She is the founder of ‘The Ladies Brunch Houston’—an organization for women that aims to empower, uplift and inspire all women through personal and professional development (over good brunch and networking of course!). Willis cannot wait to get more involved in the Houston community and is excited to be apart of the CW 39 family. If you see her out and about, don’t be afraid to say hi and please send all story ideas to kwillis@CW39.com!
