HOUSTON – Jazz has been an influential musical art form in the African-American culture as early as the 1920s, an era known as the Jazz age.
When it comes to this popular genre, many would agree that one of the most important and loved sounds comes from the saxophone.
“I think the main thing that makes it so popular is just the sound it makes. It’s a very unique sound. It’s not like the trumpet, it’s not like the clarinet, it’s not like any of the other instruments, it has its own sound,” said Ed Fleming.
Fleming, a musician and owner of the Fleming Instrument Repair shop in Houston, has been repairing instruments since 1979.
Some of his repairs includes those of well-known local jazz musicians throughout the Bayou City.
