LOUISVILLE, KY – There’s an amber ‘liquid’ alert in the Bluegrass State for Pappy Van Winkle, because someone made off with 65 cases of the 20-year-old Pappy, 195 bottles of that rare amber liquid.
And that meant a lot of disappointed Kentuckians left in the liquor-store lurch. Liquor store owner
Jerry Rogers explains why: “Everybody wants it. There just isn’t that much, because you had to decide 20 years ago that ‘OK, we’re gonna make whiskey to sell 20 years from now.'”
The bourbon bandits stole the Pappy from Buffalo Trace Distillery over the past couple of months. A heist valued at more than $25,000.
But that was for the 20-year-old. Cops say the thieves also took 9 cases of the rare Family Reserve Rye.
Of course, when cops catch the thieves, they’ll have all the proof they need, about 80 to be exact.
