HARLINGEN, TX – Sometimes kids do crazy things to get attention and approval. Sporting a favorite team’s logo does not fall in that department.
8-year-old Carson Salazar from Harlingen just wanted to share his enthusiasm with the design shaved on the back of his head (a cardinal, the mascot of his youth football team). But administrators found that expression to be a distraction, so they said he needed to shave it or face suspension.
Apparently it goes back to the student code of conduct. The superintendent says, “HCISD prohibits any clothing or grooming that in the principal’s judgment may reasonably be expected to cause disruption of or interference with normal school operations.”
In other words, principals get to play fashion police, and if they don’t like your style you’re out of luck!
What a head case.
